The Departments of Materials and Mechanical Engineering at the University of British Columbia, Vancouver campus seek an outstanding individual for a Tier 1 Canada Research Chair in Materials and Mechanics.

The position is targeted at a leading researcher working at the intersection of materials and mechanics with a specialty in the development and application of advanced modelling and simulation tools for the prediction of plasticity and fracture in crystalline materials. The position will be a joint appointment in the Departments of Materials and Mechanical Engineering and is expected to be a full time tenured appointment made at the rank of Professor. The successful candidate must be globally recognized as a leader in this research area and will be expected to participate in the advanced materials and manufacturing research cluster being developed at UBC. The candidate will teach undergraduate and graduate level courses and supervise graduate students at the Masters and Ph.D. level.

Applicants should submit a curriculum vitae, a statement (1-2 pages) of technical and teaching interests and accomplishments, and names and addresses (e-mail included) of four referees. The candidate will hold a Ph.D. degree or equivalent in Materials or Mechanical Engineering or a closely related field and will be expected to register as a Professional Engineer in British Columbia.

The Chair is expected to establish a Centre of Excellence in Energy Systems for Smart Cities at the SFU Surrey Campus, jointly with the funding partners, and lead world-class applied research and HQP training, contribute to teaching, participate in service activities and lead innovation in sustainable energy technology. The research mission of the Centre will be shaped by the Chair in collaboration with SFU’s Schools of Mechatronic Systems Engineering and Computing Science, Powertech Labs Inc. and the City of Surrey. Research can focus on one or more of the following areas: energy generation, transportation, conservation, recapture, storage and utilization within cities, including electrical and thermal energy, as well as any other renewable energy sources and related technology in alignment with the development of Smart Cities. A key duty will be building links to other Canadian universities, government agencies, municipalities, and local and international industry, including a broad range of technical and funding partnerships to launch a major research initiative.

The University of Windsor’s Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering (ECE) invites applications for an Assistant Professor position in the area of Mechatronic System Engineering. The successful candidate must have an interest and expertise in both of the following areas: Mechatronic Systems and Devices: sensors and actuators; design, modeling, and control of mechatronic systems; and Power Electronics: embedded and real time systems to electric and hybrid vehicles, electric energy and battery management systems, development of novel power converters and control strategies, alternative energy and energy storage systems, and energy harvesting. The Department has research expertise in VLSI/Microelectronics, signal processing, communication, computer and machine vision, computer engineering, electric vehicles, and control systems. It is expected that the candidate would be able to complement the existing research activities in one or more of these areas.
